January 24th, 2008 by rickGreenpeace are calling for a global network of marine reserves covering 40% of the Mediterrenean Sea.Today, 60-100% of economically exploited fish stocks are overexploited or at risk of collapse; the biomass of top predators, such as tuna and swordfish, has decreased by two-thirds in the past 50 years; and an estimated two-thirds of Europe’s coastal wetlands have disappeared in the same period of time.
